This has to be one of my favorite quotes of all time. It sparked a most powerful realization around ‘being perfect’. —->
I don’t know about you but I’ve spent a lot of time and energy worrying about looking “perfect”, and acting perfectly. When I began my spiritual journey I remember even wanting that to be perfect!. I coverd up any sign of imperfection or vulnerability ASAP.
Phewwww that was a close one! Almost got caught being human…
Of course, back in the day I didn’t see imperfections as just being human. Not at all. I saw them as confirmation of my lack of worth, annoying little reminders of just how crappy I was. Harsh, right?
The work of Joseph Campbell and this quote in particular sparked the beginning of a whole new era for me. I discovered that my ‘imperfections’, vulnerabilities and fears contained beautiful pieces of gold:
Realizations, epiphanies, a-ha moments, perspective shifts, freedom…
This discovery made me the happiest and richest person on earth! Even fears had become the best friends! You’ve gone changed the game, Joseph…
Screw being perfect! I’m hunting out those so called negative qualities. It is exciting to discover them.
Today I consider myself a treasure hunter – a pirate you might say… searching my inner world for booty. Arrrgh =)
